Our Guiding Principle

The Detroit Friends Meeting believes that there is that of God in everyone. All people can have a direct experience of the Divine, Spirit, or Inward Light individually and in shared worship. As Quakers, we try and live by our convictions and testimonies of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship every day in our actions. Our guiding principle is love. The members and attenders of the Detroit Friends Meeting are excited to announce that after ten years of being on a relocation journey, a way opened in Fourth Month, 2023! We have a new spiritual home! We have moved into an existing building at 19309 Greenfield Road in the City of Detroit and have both face-to-face Meeting and a virtual Meeting at 10:30 am. We are renovating the building and hope to have it completed by the Fall of 2025 . Click here to see a video on our story.

As of Spring 2024, we have replaced a leaking flat roof and added new aluminum trim along the gables and raised the concrete entrance to the building to create universal accessibility.

Various committees are beginning to work on the physical acknowledgment of the land, ways to serve the community, creating a welcoming space for those in the community, fundraising, and hiring minority contractors and companies to complete many of the major renovations needed.

Our goal is to be as energy neutral as our budget will allow.  With the help of Kris Guccione (architect) from KMG designs we are moving forward with heat pumps and solar energy.

Our main vision and commitment to ensure that an active and engaged Quaker presence will continue in the City of Detroit for future generations to benefit from… has now become a reality!

Fundraising as of 1/1/2024

Visitors are welcomed regardless of age, race, differing abilities, gender identity, and sexual orientation.

Detroit Friends Meeting is an unprogrammed Meeting and Meetings for Worship are held in expectant silence, without a program or pastor. Each worshiper seeks to listen to the spirit of God within. If that spirit brings to any of us a message to share with others, a worshipper may give that message as vocal ministry.

Hybrid meetings are offered at 10:30 a.m. on every Sunday at our Meetinghouse at 19309 Greenfield Rd., Detroit, MI  48235.  For a Zoom invitation to worship with us, please contact us at: detroitfriendsmeeting@gmail.com
